Belinda Tartaglia was challenged, and the challenge was accepted.
After joining the Bermuda Botanical Society, Ms Tartaglia thought, “There is an art show waiting to come. I love art; I love to paint, and when I went to the last AGM, I thought there was an art show waiting to come out.”
When she reached out to the BBS about having an art show, they replied, “Yes, but can you organize it?” This led to the ‘Bermuda Botanical Society Exhibit, which opened at the Bermuda Society of Arts last Friday.
Ms. Tartaglia said, “It’s all been driven by my love of art and Mother Nature. I could paint 24 hours a day. I could just keep creating without stopping. I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be nice to bring in others?’ There are so many people here who paint, but they stay home and just hang the work on the wall. Why not do a show?”
One of her favourites in the show is ‘Hibiscus Harmony.’ Another is a tree in the Botanical Gardens. She also loves Joselyn Morrison’s piece entitled ‘Early One Sunday Morning’, which features a hibiscus.
Marva Allen also has several pieces in the exhibit. The former Berkeley mathematics teacher said she studied under Sharon Wilson. “I didn’t realise there was more to life than just routine. When I retired, I knew I had to retool. There’s something else I can do. I can be a creative in a different way. Sharon Wilson helped bring it out.”
Ms. Allen laughed, some of my former students might be shocked to know I paint.”
The Bermuda Botanical Society Exhibit runs until July 22.
