The atrium of the Museum of Art & History in downtown Santa Cruz is filled as HERStory, a celebration of Women’s History Month, takes place Thursday. The event, which featured speeches, an interactive game session and a collaborative art project was held to provide those attending an opportunity to explore the stories and successes of women who have significantly shaped the Santa Cruz community. Organizers said that HERStory aimed to create an engaging atmosphere that fosters learning, empowerment, and community involvement. It also included a digital collection of stories from the community, highlighting women who have made an impact on individuals’ lives. These stories will be displayed at the event and will contribute to the ongoing documentation of our community’s rich history as a part of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History’s archival collections. Featured HERStory speakers included community activist Rebecca Hernandez, Santa Cruz County Poet Laureate Farnaz Fatemi, and Kirby School junior Lucia Nakashima.
