As part of the celebration of the 550th Anniversary of Anniversary of Donegal Town, Donegal Castle commissioned two artists to create works commemorating this special year. , Donegal Castle commissioned two artists to create works commemorating this special year.
During National Heritage Week in August, local artists – potter, Kevin Callaghan and Errigal Weaver, Siobhán Ní Ghallchóir, held demonstrations in the castle.

Setting up their equipment, potter’s wheel and loom, both set about creating their commissioned pieces under the gaze of the visiting public.
These were displayed for the first time on Sunday afternoon as Donegal Castle wrapped up their year of celebrations with a performance by The Rosses Pop Choirs and words from the artists.
Mayor Pauric Kennedy; 550th Steering Committee Lead, Mary McGettigan and OPW Guide Supervisor, Emma Timoney also spoke at the event, highlighting the great sense of community that the 550th brought about in the town.
