From wedding bouquets to the well-known idiom to ‘stop and smell the roses’, sometimes it feels as though there’s nothing a good frolic amongst springtime blooms can’t fix. It’s also the feeling we get when looking at the Edenic, sprawling florals of the intrepid Victorian botanist and artist, Marianne North – who saw beyond the aesthetic beauty of florals, and into their fascinating biological makeup.
