Chalk artists transformed a portion of East Main in Riverhead into a colorful canvas during the Mosaic Street Painting Festival yesterday, a celebration of the arts hosted by East End Arts on Memorial Day weekend since 1996.

The festival, which in its 28-year history has been postponed due to rain just once, took place under fair skies and pleasant temperatures downtown — a perfect day for creating chalk masterpieces and for strolling along Main Street to view the works of art-in-progress. Visitors also enjoyed live music and dance performances, and shopping at the vendor booths lining the street.
