Kitty Stephens of Yucaipa is the featured artist through June 28 at the Redlands Art Association Gallery.

Her exhibit, “Colorfully Bold and Deceptively Simple,” features paintings and drawings in ink and mixed media.

An artist’s reception will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the gallery.

Stephens, who was an elementary school teacher for 33 years, was born in Chicago and moved to California when she was 12. She lived in Redlands for 20 years before moving to Yucaipa.

She has been involved in art all her life, but first began showing her art at galleries and in juried shows 10 years ago.

She has regularly shown her art at the Redlands Art Association Gallery in the nine years she has been an RAA member, though this is her first featured artist exhibit there, according to an email she sent.

She has shown her art in juried shows with the Loma Linda Art Association, San Bernardino Art Association and Yucaipa Valley Art Association, among others. Her art has also been on exhibit at the Edward-Dean Museum in Cherry Valley, Vision Quest Art Gallery in Yucaipa and the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center.

Stephens’ art is in private collections in Italy, England and the United States, and she is a member of an art cooperative in Bolzano, Italy, where her art is shown digitally.

One of her paintings, “On the Road to Redlands,” has been accepted into the Museum of Redlands’ permanent art collection. The painting is a view from the crest of Sand Canyon Road in Yucaipa, looking down into Redlands, with wildflowers in bloom.

The Redlands Art Association Gallery is at 215 E. State St. For information, go to redlands-art.org or call the gallery at 909-792-8435.
