THE Harlow Art Trust is pleased to announce its next exhibition “Re-Drawing Harlow’ a visual, historical, and auto-biographical record of Harlow town from the eyes of Jordan Cook as it transforms around him.
Born and raised in Harlow, Cook breathes new life into the overlooked angles of everyday life, paying tribute to the town that made him. The work is rooted in the immense pride he holds for his hometown, a feeling he could only encapsulate by drawing on-site in Harlow’s sharp urban landscape.
Jordan Cook (b.1995) is a recent graduate from The Royal Drawing School and currently works out of his studio in the idyllic setting of Parndon Mill. Cook has been awarded residencies in Rhode Island, Italy and Berlin and has previously been exhibited in ‘The Drawing Year End of Year Exhibition 2019’ at The Royal Drawing School, London, and at ‘Good Buy’, Gatehouse Arts, Harlow. He was also awarded a prestigious place in the ‘Best of the Drawing Year 18-19’ exhibition at Christie’s, London.
For Cook, the stripped back nature of charcoal, onto paper is the most immediate way of responding to the world around him. With the charcoal feeling as an extension of his own hand, he draws with broad strokes and delicate detailing, creating stark contrast and a sense of movement that elicits emotion from any onlooker.
The exhibition, which is held at the Gibberd Gallery, Civic Centre is free entry and runs from Friday 4 August to Saturday 16 September. It is open every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am – 4pm. There is also a Private View to open the event on the 3 August 6pm-8pm which can be booked via Eventbrite here
Jordan led popular children’s workshops throughout the spring and the summer as part of the ‘Wild Escape’ and ‘Our Community, Our Environment’ with Harlow Creates. He will also share both his passion and experience as an artist to adults through his upcoming ‘Drawing Walks’. Jordan’s drawing walks will be on the 16th September with two seperate sessions at 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. These walks will provide a glimpse into Jordan’s creative process. During these workshops, participants will experience the thrill of drawing outside, while sharpening up creative and observational drawing skills. Jordan will be there to support and guide people to capture the town in all its glory. With the town undergoing ongoing transformations, there’s no better time to get out and depict Harlow’s charm.
