RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid City is inviting kids to participate in a drawing contest for the “Plastic Free July” challenge.

The theme of the drawing contest is “choose to refuse single use plastics”, single use plastics are anything from disposable straws to plastic water bottles.

The contest is open to kindergarten through 8th grade, and submissions are due by July 14.

On July 15, the public will be asked to vote on their favorite artwork by visiting the Rapid City’s Solid Waste Facebook page.

The art will be separated into two age group categories; kindergarten through fifth grade, and sixth through eighth grade.

The winners of the contest will have their artwork displayed on digital billboards in Rapid City for two weeks.

Parents can email their child’s drawings to ria.hannon@rcgov.org.
