Working directly from a life/nude model, be guided through set exercises and experiments to explore the different techniques that may be used to interpret the human form.
What will you learn on this course?
This is a weekly structured course consisting of group projects. These projects will cover drawing skills, including measurement, proportion, line, tone and colour, and the use of art materials including pencils, charcoal, pastels, and paint if wanted.
Each week, you will refer to an unclothed professional life model as your subject. MAC employs a range of life models and each class consists mostly of a long pose, though some shorter exercises may be included.
At the start of each class, the tutor will demonstrate a basic technique and provide examples from their own work or from other artists. Working on your own drawings or paintings, the tutor will provide individual attention and guidance, encouraging you to discover your own creative direction. While most of the emphasis is on individual tuition, beginners may compare notes as part of group projects. Experienced students are welcome to work independently, with the tutor providing guidance as and when required.
This course focuses on learning by art practice in an environment of respect for individual creative aspiration, combined with imparting definite knowledge. You can expect to progress with a basic understanding of drawing and the use of art materials. Gain an insight into how the human form can be a fascinating ongoing topic for artistic study in its own right.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to students of all levels, including beginners with no prior experience and improvers who are looking to refine their skills.

Do you need to bring anything?
The studio is equipped with easels and drawing boards. Watercolour paper is provided and basic art materials may be borrowed on the day.
You may wish to bring your own sketchbook and bring additional materials to work with as the course progresses.

Any additional materials must be bought at the participant’s expense.
