Tsuchitori has been creating paintings in the motif of two people in an intimate relationship or two separate entities within a single person as if they are melting into each other. These paintings, which can be broadly categorized into two series, “I and You” and “A Scene,” express a dense atmosphere in which the subject and the object are mixed up and all borders are blurred. For Tsuchitori, drawings are familiar, and they have a different scope from paintings.
The drawings that Tsuchitori has been experimenting with and accumulating daily are not merely studies for paintings but are fascinating autonomous works that can be described as another kind of tableau. This is the first book of drawings by Tsuchitori that offers a glimpse into the source of her paintings.
