Sharjah Art Foundation Presents ‘Drawing Time: Duets’
‘Drawing Time: Duets’ explores the greater possibilities and diversity of drawing as a discipline by showcasing both contemporary and historical pieces from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection. This exhibition is being held at Gallery 4 of Al Mureijah Art Spaces from May 4 to August 4, 2024. It is an attempt to reexamine drawing as a culturally situated disciplinary practice that originates in the mind and extends into a variety of material forms.
Drawing Time: Duets brings together the works of fifteen intergenerational artists. Further, it creates maps of colour and texture on paper and pigment, lines and marks on skin and screen, and gestures that reveal both animated and restrained movement. Also, it forms a composite image of what drawing is and could be in the modern era. The theme of the double, pair, and rejoinder is also explored throughout the exhibition. The exhibit includes pieces by artists Amal Kenawy, Helen Khal, and Ibrahim Massouda.
The Artworks Feature Fusion Of Hues And Textures!
The exhibition’s artworks feature a stunning fusion of hues and textures on paper and pigment, lines and marks on skin and screen. It is exposed through both deliberate and spontaneous movement. The gestures give a composite representation of what drawing is and could be in the modern period.
Further, the exhibition explores the notions of the double, pair, response, and acts of recurrence. Expect to see creative duets that transport guests back in time by a century. The perfect amount of dissonance or flawed resonance creates a condition of harmony for couples who dance and sing together. The exhibition is a component of a larger research project by the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection team. It delves into the complex histories of drawing and print culture in contemporary artistic practices.
