“The ‘Quick Draw’ is one of Art Center Ukiah’s favorite and best-attended events,” announces Jacquie Lolich, the show’s coordinator.

“It’s planned to take place throughout the evening during the October First Friday Art Walk,” she explains, “and members of the public will have a rare opportunity to watch what usually happens only in studios or art classes… artists drawing live models.”

This event was originally Jacquie’s brainchild, and it has been repeated at ACU at least five times.

Meelah Dorhosti, an attendee at last year’s event, says, “It looked like the artists who were involved were really into it. And the observers were just captivated.” Jacquie adds, “It’s generous of the artists to put themselves on the spot. It’s always a big challenge to draw in public, and to try for a believable representation of a person in a very short time. It’s an exercise in getting over yourself and leaving your inner critic at home.”

Seven local artists will be participating, drawing a series of 20-minute poses with a variety of different models. Completed work will be hung on lines around the room for visitors to enjoy as each modeling session closes.

Each artist will also be allotted wall space for one example of their finished personal work, which does not necessarily have to focus on a human image as the subject matter… it could be a landscape, a still life or even an abstract work in any medium.

Visitors should expect an evening that is fun, lively and unpredictable. Come early, come halfway through the event, or come late… there will be art happening before your eyes.

The First Friday Art Walk will be on Oct. 4 from 5-8 p.m. Live music will be presented throughout the evening by Steve Winkle. Art Center Ukiah is located in the rear of the Corner Gallery at 201 S. State St. in Ukiah.
