BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Saturday marked the 2nd annual Art in the Park event held by the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department.
The event took place at Basil Griffin Park, where 445 people came to experience the various creative opportunities they had to offer.
According to WCPR, that is an increase from the 350 attendees who came to the inaugural event held in 2023.
“Art in the Park is something a lot of parks departments across the state and country do, and we had never really done one here,” said Jade Grabeel, operations coordinator for WCPR, when asked how the event initially came to be. “We were met with so much joy and love from the community that we were like, ‘Okay, this is going to continue. This is going to be a yearly event.’”
This year over 20 vendors participated in Art in the Park, showcasing local artists and their work for attendees.
According to Grabeel, the event also acted as a way to bridge the gap between parks and the arts.
“Art is so important for childhood development, but it’s also important for adults and kids of all ages,” she said. “We just want to have time to have people associate art with the park. You can come outside, you can paint and you can do all these fun things in a natural setting.”
The event featured creative outlets such as clay making, rock painting, chalk drawing and creative writing, along with an evening showing of the animated feature, Migration, in honor of the ducks that Basil Griffin Park is commonly known for.
