Spend time at Ottawa’s “Art in the Park” and, well, you learn something. For one thing, creating a picture isn’t just by brush anymore. On Saturday, we met Ottawa Art League President Sharon Danielson in Washington Park. She’s been painting for several decades…but, lately, she has no need for a brush:
She mixes beeswax with paint. It dries overnight and it doesn’t need varnish as regular oil paintings do. She’ll even scratch down several layers and those marks become part of the final image. Sharon will demonstrate this method Wednesday night at the Open Space Art Gallery at 223 West Madison. Call the Gallery to get more details. You can see John Small’s interview with Danielson and La Salle artist Nancy Nieslawski on the 103-9 WLPO Facebook page.
