Preston-based artist Shiryn Wynter is brightening local healthcare spaces with uplifting artwork designed to improve wellbeing and bring a sense of calm to patients and staff alike.
Through her growing community initiative, teacher and PhD researcher Shiryn has been working with local GP surgeries to install colourful, positive artwork that transforms ordinary clinical environments into creative, welcoming spaces. The project aims to make art more accessible and to show how creativity can inspire better emotional wellbeing.
Shiryn, who holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a Master’s degree, is currently completing a PhD researching behaviour in schools. Her unique combination of artistic practice and educational insight gives her work a strong focus on positivity, engagement, and the human impact of environment and design.

“I’ve seen how colour and creativity can completely change the atmosphere of a space,” said Shiryn. “In GP surgeries, where people may be anxious or unwell, art can offer comfort, distraction, and hope. My goal is to make art part of everyday wellbeing.”

So far, Shiryn’s work is on display at St Mary’s Medical Centre and St Fillan’s Medical Centre in Penwortham. She is now in discussions with additional GP surgeries across Preston, with hopes to expand the project further.
Shiryn is also developing a community art gallery in St George’s Shopping Centre, featuring artwork by herself, her son, and her brother – all local artists dedicated to bringing art and optimism to the city centre.
