Reception children at Ellington Infant School in Ramsgate have been enjoying the opportunity to work with a visiting artist.
The children worked with local artist Christine Henn to create self-portraits as a part of their topic, ‘All About Me’. Christine encouraged the children to paint pictures, not just of themselves, but of things they like or things that show who they are, and there was a range of exciting, colourful final pieces.

Head teacher Adnan Ahmet said: “Working with Christine was a decision made to offer the children in school a new and different opportunity that they may not have experienced before, the chance to meet and work with a professional artist. This is all a part of the school’s ‘Ellington Experiences’, an initiative at school aimed at expanding the life experiences of the children who attend Ellington.
“Ellington Experiences are a set of enjoyable and memorable activities and experiences that the school has pledged to make available for all children.
“These experiences are activities that the school believe hold importance in the lives of children, and which the school feels are meaningful opportunities for children to experience during their time with them in order to build their experience and knowledge of the world.

“There are 10 experiences per year group that children will engage with throughout the year and it is the school’s pledge that all children in the school will be able to take part in the activities for their year-group.
“Some are smaller activities, while others are much more ambitious in scale, but they will all ensure that children grow up with a well-rounded and enriching experience of life in modern society.”
